Designer ceiling lamp: Circular geometry as a language of light

In contemporary architecture, the ceiling has ceased to be a neutral plane to become an expressive canvas where light defines the identity of the space. The designer ceiling lamp represents, within this evolution, a typology that combines architectural integration with sculptural presence: a luminaire that adheres to the upper plane without giving up visual character. When the project requires ceiling lighting that dialogues with the geometry of the space —without the drop of a suspension nor the invisibility of a recessed fitting—, the flush ceiling lamp emerges as the precise answer.

Our collection of ceiling lamps explores this typology through the TR Ceiling collection, designed by Josep Lluís Xuclà. Two variants —TR Ceiling Down and TR Ceiling Up— that start from the same circular formal vocabulary to offer two complementary lighting behaviours: direct light and indirect light. Manufactured entirely in Barcelona in extruded and curved aluminium, with an in-house designed LED on a flexible PCB and CRI 90, these luminaires represent the synthesis between industrial precision and high-level craftsmanship that defines our identity.

TR Ceiling Down: direct light with sculptural presence

The TR Ceiling Down is a circular designer ceiling lamp that projects the light downwards, directly illuminating the work surface or the activity plane. Its extruded and curved aluminium profile generates a clean circumference, a continuous stroke that dialogues with the architecture of the ceiling without competing with it.

The gel polycarbonate diffuser softens the LED emission and eliminates any glare, guaranteeing maximum visual comfort thanks to its colour rendering index CRI 90. This level of colour fidelity is essential in spaces where the precise perception of colour is decisive: art galleries, professional work areas, high-level hospitality or residences where every material and every finish must be appreciated with total naturalness.

Installation is carried out using stems of 12 or 20 cm that separate the body of the ceiling lamp from the plane of the ceiling, creating a subtle air chamber that reinforces the perception of lightness. The independent circular canopy for surface installation allows a clean and discreet fixing, adaptable to any type of ceiling.

TR Ceiling Up: indirect lighting and enveloping atmospheres

The TR Ceiling Up reverses the direction of the light emission: it projects the light towards the ceiling, turning it into a large reflector that returns a diffuse, enveloping lighting free of hard shadows. It is a designer ceiling lamp conceived to create atmospheres of quiet elegance, where the light source disappears and the space seems to be illuminated from within.

This mode of indirect light is especially valued in interior design projects that seek ambient comfort without visible light points: residential living rooms, hotel lobbies, meeting rooms or waiting spaces where visual serenity is part of the experience. By reflecting the light on the plane of the ceiling, the TR Ceiling Up enhances the perception of height and spaciousness, a lighting resource that lighting designers frequently use to transform the perceived volume of a space.

The construction of the TR Ceiling Up shares with its Down counterpart the same material demand: extruded and curved aluminium, gel polycarbonate diffuser and LED on a flexible PCB designed specifically by Insòlit for the TR collection. The constructive coherence between both variants makes it possible to integrate them into the same project with the certainty that the formal language will be identical.

Four diameters, five finishes: a ceiling lamp for every scale

Both the TR Ceiling Down and the TR Ceiling Up are available in four diameters that respond to diverse architectural scales: Ø50 cm (32 W / 1,693 lm), Ø70 cm (48 W / 2,540 lm), Ø100 cm (70 W / 3,683 lm) and Ø120 cm (90 W / 4,733 lm). This range makes it possible to specify the right ceiling lamp both for an office of contained dimensions and for a double-height entrance hall.

The palette of finishes —white, black, gold, bronze and graphite— has been conceived to dialogue with the most frequent materialities in contemporary interior architecture. White integrates into light ceilings with absolute discretion; black brings contrast and graphic definition; gold and bronze introduce a material warmth that evokes the artisanal; graphite offers a sophisticated neutrality that works in both residential and contract contexts.

Light control and colour temperature: precision at the service of the project

Each designer ceiling lamp of the TR Ceiling collection is offered in three colour temperatures2,700 K, 3,000 K and 4,000 K— to adapt the light tone to the functionality of the space. 2,700 K generates a warm light ideal for residential and hospitality environments; 3,000 K offers a neutral-warm balance suitable for work areas and commercial spaces; 4,000 K provides a cooler, more stimulating light, optimal for technical or healthcare environments.

The dimming system is equally versatile. The luminaires support TRIAC, DALI/Push, 1-10V and Casambi control, which guarantees their integration into any home automation or professional lighting management ecosystem. The Casambi option is especially interesting for projects seeking wireless dimming without the need for additional wiring, simplifying installation and expanding the possibilities of scenographic control.

Overlapping compositions: when the ceiling lamp becomes an installation

One of the most singular qualities of the TR Ceiling collection is its ability to generate compositions of multiple overlapping units. Thanks to the system of stems at different heights, several ceiling lamps of different diameters can be superimposed at the same point of the ceiling, creating circular constellations that transform the individual designer ceiling lamp into a true bespoke lighting installation.

This compositional possibility is especially powerful in lobbies, restaurants, conference rooms or any space that demands a focal point of light with sculptural presence. By combining TR Ceiling Down and TR Ceiling Up units in the same composition, the specifier can design a piece that simultaneously offers direct and indirect lighting, achieving a luminous richness hardly attainable with a single luminaire typology.

Barcelona craftsmanship for projects without compromise

The TR Ceiling collection embodies the philosophy of Insòlit: luminaires born from the dialogue between signature design and high-level artisanal manufacturing in Barcelona. Each designer ceiling lamp of this family is fully customisable —in diameter, finish, colour temperature and control system—, which allows the architect and the interior designer to specify a solution that fits exactly the formal and lighting requirements of each project. Designed by Josep Lluís Xuclà and manufactured entirely in our Barcelona workshop, the TR Ceiling Down and TR Ceiling Up luminaires demonstrate that a ceiling lamp can be much more than a point of light: it can be the piece that defines the luminous identity of a space.

Frequently asked questions about the designer ceiling lamp

What is a flush ceiling lamp?

A flush ceiling lamp is a luminaire installed directly against the ceiling or with very short stems, barely dropping down. It provides general lighting and is ideal for spaces with ceilings of contained height, where a suspension lamp would not fit.

What is the difference between a flush ceiling lamp and a pendant lamp?

The main difference is the space they occupy. The pendant lamp drops from the ceiling using cables or stems, occupying vertical volume, while the flush ceiling lamp remains attached or very close to the ceiling. The flush ceiling lamp is the most suitable option for low ceilings or passage areas.

What type of ceilings is a flush ceiling lamp ideal for?

The flush ceiling lamp is ideal for ceilings of limited height, corridors, entrance halls, bedrooms and any space where general lighting is sought without hanging elements. It also works very well in compositions of several units over wide surfaces.
