In contemporary architecture, the ceiling has evolved from a neutral plane into an expressive canvas where light defines spatial identity. The designer ceiling light represents, within this evolution, a typology that combines architectural integration with sculptural presence: a luminaire that adheres to the upper plane without sacrificing visual character. When a project demands ceiling lighting that engages with the geometry of the space —without the drop of a pendant or the invisibility of a recessed fitting— the ceiling light emerges as the precise response.
Our collection of designer ceiling lights explores this typology through the TR Ceiling collection, designed by Josep Lluís Xuclà. Two variants —TR Ceiling Down and TR Ceiling Up— share the same circular formal vocabulary yet deliver two complementary lighting behaviours: direct and indirect light. Entirely manufactured in Barcelona from extruded and curved aluminium, with proprietary flexible PCB LED technology and a CRI of 90, these luminaires embody the synthesis of industrial precision and high-level craftsmanship that defines our identity.
TR Ceiling Down: Direct Light with Sculptural Presence
The TR Ceiling Down is a circular designer ceiling light that projects light downward, directly illuminating the work surface or activity plane. Its extruded and curved aluminium profile generates a clean circumference, a continuous stroke that dialogues with ceiling architecture without competing with it.
The gel polycarbonate diffuser softens the LED emission and eliminates any glare, ensuring maximum visual comfort through its Colour Rendering Index of 90. This level of chromatic fidelity proves essential in spaces where accurate colour perception is decisive: art galleries, professional work areas, high-end hospitality or residences where every material and finish must be appreciated with complete naturalness.
Installation is achieved via 12 or 20 cm rods that separate the luminaire body from the ceiling plane, creating a subtle air gap that reinforces the perception of lightness. The independent circular canopy for surface mounting allows a clean, discreet fixing adaptable to any ceiling type.
TR Ceiling Up: Indirect Lighting and Enveloping Atmospheres
The TR Ceiling Up reverses the direction of light emission: it projects light upward onto the ceiling, transforming it into a large reflector that returns diffuse, enveloping illumination free of harsh shadows. It is a designer ceiling light conceived to create atmospheres of quiet elegance, where the light source disappears and the space seems to glow from within.
This indirect lighting mode is particularly valued in interior design projects seeking ambient comfort without visible light sources: residential living rooms, hotel lobbies, meeting rooms or waiting areas where visual serenity is part of the experience. By reflecting light off the ceiling plane, the TR Ceiling Up enhances the perception of height and spaciousness —a lighting technique that lighting designers frequently employ to transform the perceived volumetry of a space.
The TR Ceiling Up shares with its Down counterpart the same material rigour: extruded and curved aluminium, gel polycarbonate diffuser and flexible PCB LED specifically designed by Insòlit for the TR collection. This constructive coherence between both variants allows their integration within the same project, with the certainty that the formal language will remain identical.
Four Diameters, Five Finishes: A Ceiling Light for Every Scale
Both the TR Ceiling Down and TR Ceiling Up are available in four diameters suited to diverse architectural scales: Ø50 cm (32 W / 1,693 lm), Ø70 cm (48 W / 2,540 lm), Ø100 cm (70 W / 3,683 lm) and Ø120 cm (90 W / 4,733 lm). This range enables specification of the appropriate luminaire for a compact office as well as a double-height foyer.
The palette of finishes —white, black, gold, bronze and graphite— has been conceived to dialogue with the most frequent materialities in contemporary interior architecture. White integrates seamlessly into light ceilings; black provides contrast and graphic definition; gold and bronze introduce a material warmth evocative of craftsmanship; graphite offers a sophisticated neutrality that works in both residential and contract contexts.
Light Control and Colour Temperature: Precision at the Service of the Project
Each designer ceiling light in the TR Ceiling collection is offered in three colour temperatures —2,700 K, 3,000 K and 4,000 K— to adapt the light tonality to the functional requirements of the space. The 2,700 K setting produces a warm light ideal for residential and hospitality environments; the 3,000 K offers a neutral-warm balance suited to work areas and commercial spaces; the 4,000 K delivers a cooler, more stimulating light, optimal for technical or healthcare settings.
The dimming system is equally versatile. The luminaires support TRIAC, DALI/Push, 1-10V and Casambi control, ensuring integration into any home automation or professional lighting management ecosystem. The Casambi option proves especially interesting for projects seeking wireless dimming without additional wiring, simplifying installation and broadening the possibilities of scenographic control.
Layered Compositions: When a Ceiling Light Becomes an Installation
One of the most distinctive qualities of the TR Ceiling collection is its capacity to generate layered multi-unit compositions. Thanks to the rod system at varying heights, several ceiling lights of different diameters can overlap at a single ceiling point, creating circular constellations that transform an individual designer ceiling light into a true bespoke lighting installation.
This compositional possibility proves particularly powerful in lobbies, restaurants, conference rooms or any space demanding a luminous focal point with sculptural presence. By combining TR Ceiling Down and TR Ceiling Up units within a single composition, the specifier can design a piece that simultaneously provides direct and indirect illumination, achieving a lighting richness that is difficult to attain with a single luminaire typology.
Barcelona Craftsmanship for Uncompromising Projects
The TR Ceiling collection embodies Insòlit’s philosophy: luminaires born from the dialogue between signature design and high-level artisanal manufacture in Barcelona. Each designer ceiling light in this family is fully customisable —in diameter, finish, colour temperature and control system— enabling architects and interior designers to specify a solution that precisely meets the formal and lighting requirements of every project.Designed by Josep Lluís Xuclà and entirely manufactured in our Barcelona workshop, the TR Ceiling Down and TR Ceiling Up luminaires demonstrate that a ceiling light can be far more than a point of light: it can be the piece that defines the luminous identity of a space.
