In a living room or dining room, a pendant lamp marks the centre of the space. In a bedroom, its role is different: it does not define a table or organise an activity zone — it creates the lighting atmosphere in which rest takes place. A well-chosen pendant lamp for the bedroom replaces bedside lamps, frees up surface space on the nightstands and brings a sculptural presence that no adjustable arm lamp can offer.
The challenge lies in the choice: in the bedroom, the eye rests looking upward, so the light source cannot be exposed. The colour temperature must be warm. Dimming is almost essential. And the scale of the piece must relate to the ceiling height and the size of the bed. At Insolit we manufacture in Barcelona designer pendant lamps conceived to meet all these requirements. What the bedroom demands from a pendant lamp
Before choosing a model, it is worth being clear about the criteria that distinguish a pendant suitable for the bedroom from one that is not:
- Indirect or diffused light: direct downward emission from a bedroom pendant causes glare when lying down. Models with indirect emission (upward) or with a diffuser that softens the beam are the most comfortable.
- Colour temperature 2700–3000 K: essential for promoting relaxation. Neutral or cool temperatures activate the nervous system and disrupt sleep.
- Dimming: the bedroom needs at least two light scenes. The pendant must be compatible with DALI, Triac or Push Dim dimming systems.
- Correct installation height: hung beside the headboard, the pendant should not be at eye level when sitting up in bed. As a general rule, the light point should sit between 140 and 160 cm from the floor when installed at the side of the bed.
Insolit pendant lamps for the bedroom
These are the three models from our collection that best respond to the needs of the bedroom: one for general ambient light, one for sculptural presence beside the bed, and a third that combines both functions in a single piece.
TR Up: circular indirect light, the perfect atmosphere for rest

The TR Up is the circular pendant from the TR collection with fully indirect emission: all the light travels upward to the ceiling and bounces back, bathing the bedroom in an enveloping glow with no visible bright spot. It is the perfect solution for anyone seeking general ambient light in the bedroom without compromising visual comfort when lying down.
Made from extruded and bent aluminium profile with a gel polycarbonate diffuser, it integrates an LED on a flexible PCB designed by Insolit. Height-adjustable with three stainless steel cables, it features an independent circular canopy for surface mounting. Fully customisable in diameter and finish, it adapts to standard bedrooms and large-format suites alike.
Glass Pendant: vertical sculptural element for the headboard

The Glass Pendant is the pendant for those who want more than illumination: they want a piece. Made from a striped glass tube suspended from the ceiling by a tensioner, it brings verticality, character and a subtle luminous presence that works perfectly beside the headboard — flanking the bed like vertical sconces without the need for wall installation.
Its warm, enveloping light, dimmable via DALI or PUSH, creates the perfect scene for bedtime reading without the aggressive halo of a direct spotlight. When switched off, the striped glass tube remains an object: its presence as a decorative piece does not depend on the light being on. Steel tube body, Insolit-designed LED PCB, fully customisable.
TR Pendulum: vertical indirect light, the pendant that defines the headboard

The TR Pendulum combines the circular geometry of the TR collection with a vertically directed indirect light emission: the light falls downward but in a soft, diffused way — no glare — creating a warm halo around the piece. It is the most suitable model for installation at the sides of the bed, where it acts as a reading light with far more character than a conventional wall sconce.
Made from extruded and bent aluminium profile with a gel polycarbonate diffuser and flexible PCB LED, height-adjustable with two stainless steel cables. The independent circular canopy simplifies installation and, like the entire TR collection, it is fully customisable in diameter and finish.
Height and position: how to install a pendant in the bedroom
Correct installation makes the difference between a pendant that works and one that gets in the way. Some key guidelines:
- Central pendant: if installed in the centre of the bedroom as the sole ceiling light source, the ideal height is between 200 and 220 cm from the floor to the light point, ceiling height permitting.
- Bedside pendants: the bottom of the piece should sit between 140 and 160 cm from the floor. This places it at shoulder height when sitting up in bed — not at eye level and not so low as to feel intrusive when reading.
- One per side or shared: in double bedrooms, two symmetrical pendants — one per side — is the most balanced solution. A single central one works well as ambient light when complemented with other light sources.
- Distance from the wall: for side installation, keep at least 30–40 cm between the pendant and the headboard so the piece has presence without invading the space.

Frequently asked questions about bedroom pendant lamps
Pendants with indirect or diffused light are the most recommended, as they avoid glare when lying down. The Insolit TR Up, with fully indirect circular emission, or the TR Pendulum, with vertical indirect light, are ideal options for the bedroom.
The light point should sit between 140 and 160 cm from the floor when the pendant is installed at the sides of the bed. This places it at shoulder height when sitting up — not at eye level and not so low as to feel intrusive when reading.
Yes, but it should be combined with other light sources (wall sconces, floor lamps or adjustable ceiling spotlights). A single central pendant works well as general ambient light but is rarely sufficient for all the lighting needs of a bedroom.
Yes. All models in the TR collection (TR Up, TR Pendulum) and the Glass Pendant include dimming options via DALI, Triac or Push Dim systems, allowing you to create different light scenes in the bedroom to suit the time of day.
Yes. As Insolit designs and manufactures in Barcelona, we can adapt the diameter, finish, cable length and colour temperature of all our pendant models. This allows the pendant to integrate precisely into any bedroom project — whether a private home, hotel or bespoke interior design scheme.
