The Project and Setting Located in Torroella de Montgrí (Girona), the historic 4-star Hotel Palau lo Mirador is an architectural gem on the Costa Brava where heritage meets contemporary hospitality. As part of its renovation, the renowned Gratacós studio from Figueres partnered with INSOLIT to design and manufacture a bespoke lighting solution. The project aimed to highlight the noble character of the building while redesigning its spaces to create an immersive sensory experience and evoke new emotions for every guest.
Custom Lighting Design and Engineering To match the grandeur of the architecture and the generous proportions of the main hall, INSOLIT developed a custom version of its TR luminaires, reaching extraordinary diameters of up to 7 meters. The architectural goal extended beyond simple illumination: it aimed to integrate light as a structural element of the atmosphere. Spanning across the entire floor plan, these monumental pieces create a suspended canopy of light that warmly envelops visitors, elevating the space without overwhelming it.
Chromatic Balance and Harmony The key to this intervention lay in achieving proportion, subtle aesthetics, and visual equilibrium. Finishes and color tones were meticulously calibrated to complement the palace’s traditional materials. The result is a seamless dialogue between INSOLIT’s contemporary lighting technology and the rich historic backdrop of Hotel Palau lo Mirador, where light serves as the central thread connecting design, history, and comfort.
