Design pendant lamps: TR Collection

The TR collection is the highest expression of Insolit’s philosophy. Designed entirely by Josep Lluís Xuclà, this collection defines technical minimalism.

Its style is rooted in the purity of form: aluminium profiles that draw essential geometries, whether perfect circles or crisp lines. More than lamps, these are precise lighting tools designed to integrate into the space. Xuclà masterfully explores the versatility of light — direct, indirect, mixed or focal — under one coherent aesthetic that has become our brand’s signature.

Design pendant lamps: Glass Collection

As a complement to technical purity, Insolit explores the beauty of materials through the Glass collection, also conceived by Josep Lluís Xuclà.

The style of this collection focuses on sculptural presence and texture. The lamp uses a ribbed glass tube as its main diffuser, creating an elegant luminous element that appears to float in the space. Its design combines the delicacy of glass with the boldness of a steel body, filtering the light to create a soft, welcoming glow with a strong personality.

Design pendant lamps: Focus Line Collection

The Focus Line collection, designed by the acclaimed architect and designer Jean-Michel Wilmotte, introduces an aesthetic of high technical and industrial precision.

The collection’s style stands out for the use of machined aluminium and refined details, such as the decorative optical borosilicate glass in the pendant version. These are pieces that celebrate the functionality and shape of the projector, offering focal, controlled lighting. Wilmotte’s design brings a touch of sophisticated elegance to a markedly technical and versatile concept.

Design pendant lamps: Inside Collection

Designed by Josep Lluís Xuclà, the Inside collection breaks with the traditional suspension to offer a unique ambient-light solution.

Its style is defined by its ingenious tension-and-weight system, designed to generate an indirect general light that washes the walls. Made from a bold aluminium profile, the Inside Tensor becomes a graphic, functional element in the space, ideal for creating subtle, warm atmospheres with absolute visual comfort.

Where to place a design pendant lamp

Placing a design pendant is a key decision that balances architectural aesthetics with functionality. An Insolit luminaire doesn’t only illuminate: it creates zones, defines atmospheres and dialogues with the furniture.

Height is fundamental. A luminaire placed too high loses its impact as a focal point and can let its light disperse too much. Conversely, if it hangs too low, it interrupts sightlines and disrupts the flow of the space.

As a professional guideline, when suspending a lamp over a functional surface — such as a dining table, a kitchen island or a meeting table — we recommend placing the base of the fixture at a distance of 70 to 100 cm above the surface.

This measurement ensures optimal task lighting without obstructing visibility. It is the balance point where the design — whether the focal light of a technical profile or the ambient light of a sculptural piece — fulfils its function perfectly.

How to choose a design pendant lamp for the kitchen, living room or bedroom

Choosing a design pendant is not only an aesthetic decision; it is a technical one. Our collections are designed to solve specific lighting needs.

First, consider the finishes and materials that will dialogue with your project: from the purity of extruded aluminium in our colour palette (black, white, graphite, bronze, gold) to the material elegance of ribbed glass.

But the most important thing is to define the function:

  • For living and dining rooms: These spaces demand versatility. To create a general, welcoming atmosphere, opt for indirect light (as in the TR Up), which provides exceptional visual comfort. Over a dining table, a direct light (TR Down) or focal lamp (TR Line or TR Spot) will define the space and centre attention, ensuring the light falls perfectly on the surface.
  • For the kitchen (islands and counters): The kitchen requires precise task lighting. Over an island, direct and focal luminaires (such as our TR Spot, TR Line or Focus Line Pendant collections) are the ideal solution. They provide clear light for tasks without glare, and act as an architectural element that zones the space.
  • For the bedroom: Here warmth comes first. Indirect light is the protagonist, creating a serene atmosphere. Using pendants on either side of the bed is a design move that frees up space on bedside tables. In this setting, dimming is key, and our solutions (DALI, Casambi) allow full control over the atmosphere.

What to consider when combining pendants with floor or table lamps

A complete lighting project is built in layers. While a design pendant lamp such as those in the TR collection can act as a centrepiece and define the general or ambient light of a space, floor and table lamps are essential for task lighting and for creating welcoming corners.

A floor lamp is ideal for a reading corner next to an armchair, while a table lamp brings the focal light needed on a desk or sideboard.

To achieve visual harmony and a coherent project, the key is to maintain a unified design language. At Insolit, we have designed complete product collections that allow for this total coherence:

  • Technical coherence: The Focus Line collection, designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, is the perfect example. You can use the Focus Line Pendant over an island and complement the space with the Focus Line Floor (floor lamp) in the living room and the Focus Line Table (table lamp) in a study, always keeping the same machined-aluminium aesthetic.
  • Material coherence: The Glass collection, by Josep Lluís Xuclà, lets you create a dialogue within the space. The texture of the ribbed glass on the pendant is elegantly echoed in the Glass Floor and the Glass Table, creating a sophisticated, cohesive atmosphere.

Combining pieces from the same collection ensures the finishes, materials and design philosophy stay consistent, creating a dialogue between fixtures and resulting in a harmonious, high-end space.

Large design pendant lamps

TR Huge designer pendant lamp

For projects that demand a strong presence and large-scale lighting, Insolit offers oversized luminaires. These pieces aren’t simply bigger lamps; they are architectural statements conceived for high ceilings, double-height spaces, lobbies and large meeting rooms.

The TR Huge is the highest expression of this vision. Taking the technical minimalism and circular purity of the TR collection, we scale it up to diameters of up to 3 metres. The result is a commanding centrepiece — a ring of light that floats in the space and defines it completely, proving that minimalist design can also be monumental.

Designer ceiling lamps for the living room

For a complete lighting project in the living room, ceiling light is just as crucial as suspension light. At Insolit this category focuses on architectural and technical solutions that integrate into the space, providing everything from general ambient light to precise accenting.

Ceiling lights: minimalist general light

Our TR Ceiling collection brings the pure minimalism of the TR collection directly to the ceiling. These surface-mounted luminaires, available in direct light (TR Ceiling Down) or indirect light (TR Ceiling Up), are perfect for creating powerful, uniform general lighting in living rooms — especially in those with lower ceilings where a flush design is the ideal solution.

Spots and tracks: technical, flexible lighting

For versatile, controlled accent lighting, our spot and track collections are the professional solution.

  • The Focus Line collection offers high-precision projectors to direct light exactly where it is needed, allowing you to highlight artworks, bookshelves or wall textures.
  • The Stick collection features a pure cylindrical aesthetic, ideal for discreet but effective spot lighting.

Both collections offer multiple installation options (surface, track or magnetic systems) that allow full flexibility to adapt the living-room light to different layouts and needs over time.

Frequently asked questions about design pendant lamps

Where can a design pendant lamp be placed?

Pendant lamps work especially well over dining tables, kitchen islands and counters, in entrance halls, stairwells and bedrooms. They are ideal wherever a feature light point is needed to visually define a zone.

At what height should a pendant lamp be hung?

Over a dining table, the usual reference is to leave the lower edge of the lamp about 70–85 cm from the surface of the table. The height should be adjusted to the ceiling height and the scale of the piece.

How do you choose a design pendant lamp?

It is worth weighing up the function (general, task or accent light), the proportion to the space and furniture, the type of light emission and aesthetic consistency with the project. The quality of the materials also determines its durability.
